My Magic Carpet is About Celebrating Friendship

In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Friendship - a day set aside for world leaders, humanitarians, and peacekeeping organizations to organize events that inspire people to teach fundamental love and respect for our unique differences. Building unity helps break down silos keeping countries, cultures, and people at odds.

Over these last few years, much has happened globally and domestically to create uncomfortable divisions among formally close neighbors, family members, and friends. Everyone in the My Magic Carpet washable rug family is challenging themselves to plan caring ways for July 30th, the International Day of Friendship, to forge new relationships and mend misunderstandings over a friendly chat and snacks.

Relax, pull up a comfy white soft fluffy area rug or patterned round washable rug, and read about some of our ideas that can help make a difference in someone's life on International Day of Friendship.

Time with a New Friend

Spending time with close friends who at times know you better than your own family is therapeutic physically and mentally. On July 30th, instead of calling your best friend, why not designate a block of time to make lunch for a new neighbor or friend with whom you have an unresolved disagreement?

Create an environment in your kitchen or living room that promotes open communication and healing kindness with good food, drinks, and a grey runner rug for cozy complimentary decor. You'll feel more at ease, and so will your honored guest!

As you move through conversations, keep an open mind while learning more about one person, or work on clearing the air with another. Cherish your differences, appreciate a new perspective, and embrace this time together.

If you have children, celebrating International Day of Friendship with them is a fun, educational way to teach respect for others and get them involved in creating a friendly space for other children.

Encourage Your Child

Children also have their comfort zone and favorite friends they like to play with or sit next to in class. They also want to be like us and join in on this special day. When they hear what the International Day of Friendship means, they'll want to know what they can do to help the world unite.

Work with them on choosing inclusive games, problem-solving, and decorating their play area with new washable rugs, perfect for sitting and having snacks with new friends. Just ask what they think, and they will come up with fantastic suggestions. After all, they are the future!

Friendship isn't just a human concept.

Our pets love us, and we love them. They are there through everything, offering an ear even if we don't speak the same language. We owe them the same love, respect, and support in return.

Though our little furballs may not understand the meaning behind the International Day of Friendship, they know when we're going the extra mile for them. Take your friend out for a few hours to run free in a park, then steal an afternoon nap together on the couch, or buy them a colorful area rug that's just theirs for playing and resting. They'll get the message.

Whatever you decide to do on the International Day of Friendship, no matter how big or small the gesture, make the time you spend with people and fur friends happy, meaningful, and filled with hope for the future.
