In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Friendship - a day set aside for world leaders, humanitarians, and peacekeeping organizations to organize events that inspire people to teach fundamental love and respect for our unique differences. Building unity helps break down silos keeping countries, cultures, and people at odds.
Over these last few years, much has happened globally and domestically to create uncomfortable divisions among formally close neighbors, family members, and friends.
